Pilot project: Heat recovery & increase of energy efficiency in the gastronomy sector

The Swedish start-up company ENJAY AB has developed a technical solution to use waste heat from food preparation for heating and/or cooling purposes. The patented solution includes a fully automatic cleaning of the filter system and promises a ROI between 2 and 4 years. This technology improves energy efficiency, reduces CO2 emissions and achieves the highest economic efficiency wherever there is a need for heating and cooling that can be met by using the waste heat and using a heat pump. Typical areas of application are system gastronomy as well as hotels, cruise ships, hospitals and company canteens. After its first successful pilot projects in Scandinavia (Burger King), ENJAY will drive business development in the DACH region in 2020.

The problem:

Simple and ingenious

This is what Lepido looks like from the inside

The success of the Lepido™ heat exchange battery is due to the unique geometry of the coils. The heat exchange battery contains hundreds of tubes positioned in parallel. The patented design recovers energy as the warm air passes through them. Most of the grease particles are thus passed directly through.

The few grease particles that still stick to the coils are removed by the patented cleaning system from Lepido™. This makes Lepido™ truly maintenance-free. Only an annual inspection is required.

Suitable for heating and cooling systems

The solution:

Exhaust air with grease residues from restaurants

Address the problem,
by avoiding it

The problem with the recovery of energy from ventilation systems in restaurants consists of fat particles that clog the technical equipment and in the worst case destroy it. For this reason, restaurants and building owners still waste 100% of this energy because the entire exhaust air flow is removed. Lepido™ is the solution for this, with a very high ROI.

Instead of filtering the air, Lepido™ bypasses the whole problem by passing most of the grease particles directly through the heat exchange battery, while at the same time recovering energy from the airflow. The system is suitable for both cold and warm climates, and the output can be used flexibly.

Use the recovered energy for:

  • Ventilation
  • Tap Water
  • Radiators
  • Air Conditioning Systems
